Cadet Band

The Cadet Band is Troy High School’s entry-level concert ensemble, welcoming students who are just beginning their high school music journey. Designed to strengthen fundamentals, build confidence, and foster a love of performance, the Cadet Band helps musicians make a smooth transition to the high school band experience.

Troy Colt Marching Band

In the fall, members of the Cadet band also participate in the award-winning Troy Colt Marching Band, showcasing their talents in both concert and marching formats. The experience fosters teamwork, discipline, and a deep appreciation for music, all while creating unforgettable memories and friendships.

The Cadet Band is open to advanced high school musicians by audition only. Auditions typically take place in the spring for placement in the following school year.

What to Expect

Auditions include playing a two-octave chromatic scale, Troy High Victory, prepared etudes, and a brief interview.

Find answers to common questions about the Cadet Band.

  • To join the Cadet band, students must audition and be enrolled at Troy High School. Auditions typically occur in March. Check our website for specific dates and requirements.

  • The Cadet Band rehearses during the school day as part of the curricular music program. Additional rehearsals or sectionals may be scheduled before major performances. In the fall, all members are also part of the Troy Colt Marching Band, which includes evening and weekend commitments.

  • Yes. All Cadet Band members are also required to participate in the Troy Colt Marching Band during the fall. This is a vital part of the Cadet Band experience and performance schedule.

  • While private instruction is not required, it is strongly encouraged to help students grow individually and keep up with the demands of the ensemble.

  • Absolutely! Many Cadet Band members are involved in athletics, clubs, and other activities. We value well-rounded students and work to maintain a balanced schedule with good communication.
