Drumline/
Percussion
The Troy High School Drumline is a dynamic and high-energy percussion ensemble that plays a vital role in both our concert and marching band programs. As the rhythmic foundation of the band, the Drumline pushes students to develop precision, creativity, endurance, and ensemble coordination on the field and in concert.

Percussion Placement
All Cadet, Concert and Symphonic percussionists are enrolled in Percussion Ensemble for the first semester. Students in percussion will study, practice, and perform a wide variety of percussion literature with emphasis on the continual development of technical facility, precision movement and musical notation reading skills. They are placed in their primary performing ensemble in the second semester.

FAQs

To join the Drumline, students must audition and be enrolled at Troy High School. Auditions typically occur in March. The audition process is two-fold. Once a student is placed in either Cadet, Concert or Symphonic Band, students will advance to a Drumline audition for placement within the line.
In addition to daily in-class rehearsals, Drumline practices multiple times per week after school during marching season. These rehearsals focus on field show music, marching technique, visuals, and coordination.
While private instruction is not required, it is strongly encouraged to help students grow individually and keep up with the demands of the ensemble.
Yes. All Drumline members are also required to participate in the Troy Colt Marching Band during the fall. This is a vital part of the Drumline experience and performance schedule.
Absolutely! Many Drumline members are involved in athletics, clubs, and other activities. We value well-rounded students and work to maintain a balanced schedule with good communication.

Troy Colt Marching Band
In the fall, members participate in the award-winning Troy Colt Marching Band, showcasing their talents in both concert and marching formats. The experience fosters teamwork, discipline, and a deep appreciation for music, all while creating unforgettable memories and friendships. Percussion is a curricular ensemble (taken as a class during the school day) but also demands significant extracurricular commitment, especially during the fall Marching Band season.
