The Concert Band at Troy High School is an intermediate-level ensemble designed for students who want to continue developing their musical skills while performing a variety of engaging and rewarding repertoire. With a focus on building strong fundamentals, ensemble listening, and expressive playing, this group is ideal for students who are passionate about music and eager to grow as performers.

The Concert Band is open to intermediate high school musicians by audition only. Auditions typically take place in the spring for placement in the following school year.

What to Expect

Auditions include playing a two-octave chromatic scale, Troy High Victory, prepared etudes, and a brief interview.

Find answers to common questions about the Concert Band.

  • To join the Concert band, students must audition and be enrolled at Troy High School. Auditions typically occur in March. Check our website for specific dates and requirements.

  • The Concert Band rehearses during the school day as part of the curricular music program. Additional rehearsals or sectionals may be scheduled before major performances. In the fall, all members are also part of the Troy Colt Marching Band, which includes evening and weekend commitments.

  • Yes. All Concert Band members are also required to participate in the Troy Colt Marching Band during the fall. This is a vital part of the Concert experience and performance schedule.

  • While private instruction is not required, it is strongly encouraged to help students grow individually and keep up with the demands of the ensemble.

  • Absolutely! Many Concert Band members are involved in athletics, clubs, and other activities. We value well-rounded students and work to maintain a balanced schedule with good communication.

Troy Colt Marching Band

In the fall, members of the Concert band also participate in the award-winning Troy Colt Marching Band, showcasing their talents in both concert and marching formats. The experience fosters teamwork, discipline, and a deep appreciation for music, all while creating unforgettable memories and friendships.
