Jacob Greenwood is the Associate Director of Bands at Troy High School since 2018 and has been teaching since 2009.  He earned a bachelor's degree in music education from Michigan State University.  During his time at MSU, he was a member of the Spartan Marching Band Drumline, principal percussionist of the Wind Symphony and drum set player in the jazz program, Spartan Brass and salsa band.  Jacob studied advanced percussion methods with Gwendolyn Dease, Dr. Jon Weber and jazz drum set with Randy Gelispie.  He also studied marching band methods and wind conducting with John Madden, director emeritus of the Spartan Marching Band and Associate Director of MSU Bands.

Mr. Greenwood relocated to Chicago, IL in 2009 where he taught a private drum studio while performing with the Chicago Bulls Drumline.   The following year, he was hired as Director of Bands at Leslie Public Schools in Leslie, MI.  During his 8 years at Leslie, Mr. Greenwood doubled the band program's enrollment numbers, received consistent superior ratings at MSBOA festivals, performed in New York City, Chicago and St. Louis, collaborated with professional musicians, commissioned new compositions and directed the program to a level of success that had not been reached before.

In 2022, Mr. Greenwood earned his master’s degree in Conducting from Oakland University. While at OU, he worked closely with Dr. Greg Cunningham and Dr. Pamela Klena on advanced conducting. He also conducted the Symphonic Band and the Wind Symphony, Oakland’s premier wind band.

At Troy High School, Mr. Greenwood assists in teaching and conducting Symphonic, Concert, Cadet and Campus Bands as well as the award-winning Troy Colt Marching Band.   Additionally, he teaches a percussion class, Jazz Explorations, AP Music Theory and Music Technology and Recording, an innovative course that allows students to record and produce music with state-of-the-art, industry level gear.

When not teaching at Troy High, Jacob directs the Detroit Red Wings Drumline and performs around the region in his own band.   He also enjoys playing golf and spending time with his wife, Jocelyn and son, Evan.
